#BringBackOurGirls Statement: International Women’s Day 2017 #IWD2017
Today is the International Women’s Day 2017, and also Day 1059 since our
#ChibokGirls were abducted from Government Secondary School, Chibok. To
date, 195 of of our girls are still in captivity with only 24 returned from
the clutches of Boko Haram just last year.
This year’s theme #BeBoldForChange calls on everyone to help forge a better
working world; particularly, a more inclusive, gender-equal world. Our
Chibok girls remain in captivity for 1059 days for simply wanting an
education to better themselves and improve the conditions of their families
and community, despite the risks and challenges involved. A world that is
truly working towards inclusion, gender equality, fairness, and equity must
prioritise raising its voice for the return of our 195 Chibok girls who are
a global symbol of what it means to be bold for change. This becomes more
imperative as their protracted captivity enters its third year in just 5
weeks on 14 April.
